Marlene Markowitz is the founder of Guía Legal Group and is deeply committed to advocating for others. As a first-generation American born in Guatemala, she understands firsthand the importance of having strong legal representation when navigating the complex process of building a new life in the United States. Fluent in Spanish, Marlene established her practice to provide personalized immigration strategies and legal solutions for individuals seeking asylum, family petitions, citizenship, work permits, adjustment of status, and more.
She prides herself on staying current with trends and policy changes that impact immigration law, offering strategies that save her clients time and resources. Marlene has a proven track record of making compelling arguments in court, often resulting in favorable outcomes for her clients.
She has represented individuals before U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, under Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody, and before the Executive Office for Immigration Review. Her courtroom experience spans jurisdictions across the United States.
Throughout her legal career, Marlene has remained dedicated to opening doors for underserved communities. While earning her law degree at St. Thomas University, she gained experience as a certified legal intern at the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office, prosecuting misdemeanor domestic violence cases.
She also worked as a legal intern advocating for children in foster care. Marlene has volunteered with nonprofit organizations including Americans for Immigrant Justice, Catholic Legal Services Miami, and No More Tears. After five years in private practice, she opened her own firm in 2017.
She has been active in professional and community organizations such as Latina Pro, Las Comadres, and 100 Women Who Care. As a small business owner surrounded by other Latina entrepreneurs, Marlene understands the value of protecting hard-earned investments, which is why her firm also offers trademark registration services.
An advocate for social justice, she has appeared on numerous panels and forums promoting immigration reform and humane policies that protect undocumented immigrants, especially youth.
As a mother of two, Marlene understands the central role family plays in shaping a secure and hopeful future. Her personal experiences fuel her dedication to helping parents obtain lawful status so families can remain together without fear of separation from their U.S.-citizen children.
Marlene is also a proud author who shares her journey as a first-generation immigrant in Latina’s Who Boss Up, offering inspiration and insight to others navigating similar paths. At Guía Legal Group, she personally stands behind every case, committed to advocating not only for her clients, but also for the families whose futures depend on strong and compassionate legal representation.
